Once you have installed your Rithum Switch as per the installation instructions
, there is some basic setup to do.
Note on waking the screen: If you have an early version of software on your Rithum Switch (with batch number 202104 printed on the device label), then waking the screen may require a hold instead of a tap. Once connected to Wi-Fi and updated, it will then be a tap to wake.
Note on software updates: After connecting your Rithum Switch to Wi-Fi (and the internet), your switch may update its software from the cloud. It is recommended to wait a few minutes after first connecting to the internet for this to happen so you don't have to configure the device twice.
When power is applied, Rithum Switch should boot up automatically, no action is required. After a few seconds to a minute, Rithum Switch will load into the Scenes screen. If it is the first boot then most likely you will have a WiFi error as you have not configured the network yet.
Rithum Switch has four main screens:
- Scenes screen (default)
- Audio screen
- Climate screen
- Settings screen
The scenes screen will always be present, though the Audio and Climate screens require configuration and/or a compatible plugin first.
Navigation between these screens is done via the Tabs at the top and bottom of the screen which can either be tapped or swiped. The Bottom Tab on the Scenes screen navigates to the Audio screen where the Top Tab then navigates back to the Scenes screen. The Top Tab of the Scenes screen navigates to the Settings screen where the Bottom Tab then navigates back to the Scenes screen.
Go to the Settings screen by tapping or swiping the Top Tab on the Scenes screen. Then hold the settings icon for 3-4 seconds.
The first thing to configure is the Wi-Fi which Rithum Switch uses for all communications.
It is important to ensure a good wifi connection and therefore a non-ISP supplied router/network is highly recommended with additional access points as appropriate to provide adequate coverage.
To get started, tap Network from the Settings menu. Rithum Switch will then scan available Wi-Fi networks and show a list of them.
Now simply tap on the network you want to connect to and enter the key.
If you can't see a network that you are expecting to see, then tap
to go back and then tap Network
again. This should rescan available networks.
By tapping on the connected network, you can see various connection details, including the signal level. For more information on networks, please see WiFi Roaming & Mesh Networks
The integrations screen shows currently configured integrations as well as Add Integration and viewing Installed Plugins.
You can tap on a configured integration name to see information about it and also remove it if you wish.
Some integrations are shipped pre-installed onto your switch. For information on installing optional plugins, see Adding & Setting Up a Plugin
To add an integration, simply tap Add Integration and select the integration from the list. If an integration is greyed out, it has likely already been added and is restricted to one instance of that specific integration.
From this point, the way each integration is configured varies. In some cases, there might be some automatic discovery, in others you may need to enter an IP address and possibly login credentials. Simply follow the on screen instructions fo the plugin.
After adding an integration that supports the Scenes Screen, a modal with provide you with a shortcut option to the Screens > Scenes Screen menu to continue setup, or you can navigate there manually.
For integration-specific setup instructions, please see the relevant Help Centre article in the side bar.
Currently the Scenes Screen is the only option here, from where you can manage the buttons on the Scenes Screen.
Add Buttons will allow you to select an integration to add scene buttons from. It is then possible to select multiple scenes across different rooms. With your scenes selected, tap
to insert them.
Now the root Scenes Screen menu will list your inserted buttons. It is possible to reorder them with the arrows, tap to remove. or Add Buttons again. Note that the Scenes Screen supports up to 8 scene buttons. Any more than this will be greyed out in the settings menu but can be reordered upwards to make them take priority.
Tap on the icon symbol to select an icon fo each scene button from a list
From here you can set which room in which integration will be controlled via the Hold gesture, and toggled on and off.
The Location setting is used to set time and weather information that is then displayed on the Top Tab.
Simply tap Location, select your Time Zone
then enter your Postal Code
. Note that the Postal Code must be within the Time Zone selected.
If successful, the weather icon on the Top Tab on the Scenes screen should update after a few seconds.
If the postcode doesn't work after a couple of tries, please check the format. In some cases, it might be necessary to use a nearby postcode if the one you have entered is not in the database we use (e.g. it's a new postcode).
Offers the ability to set the standby timer between 5 and 60 seconds or activate Clean Me mode.
Rithum Stat is Rithum's thermostat implementation on gen3 Rithum Switches.
Note, switches prior to gen3 will not see this option as there is no temperature sensor in those models.
Rithum Stat works by switching a relay via one of our other integrations. For example, this could be a Zigbee relay paired with Philips Hue, or a Rako or Lutron Ra2 Select Relay. We will soon be adding support to trigger Homey flows too.
To Configure Rithum Stat, simply set a Zone Name, Heat On and Off Actions, and Enable Rithum Stat. The Heat On Action and Heat Off Action will allow the selection of a scene from another integration or a Philips Hue device, for example a Zigbee Relay paired with Philips Hue or a relay or scene within another lighting integration.
This section will provide various system functions and information
- Reboot - will immediately reboot the switch
- Send Report - Will send Rithum a diagnostics report. Please only do this if asked by Rithum
- About - various information about your switch, including
- Serial Number
- MAC Address
- Software Version
- Authorisation Code - This changes periodically and is required when assigning a plugin licence
- Erase Data - This will remove all user defined settings and data
- Factory reset - This will erase all data and roll the software back to how the switch was originally shipped
Now everything is setup, you are ready to use your Rithum Switch!
At Rithum, we know that getting the lights on is a priority and no amount of technology should make it more difficult. That's why Rithum's Hold Standby Gesture toggles the lights.
When Rithum Switch is in Standby (i.e. the screen is black), holding the screen for >0.2 of a second will trigger the zone selected in the Gestures settings menu to toggle.
The Double Tap gesture will play/pause the currently selected audio zone, if there is one.
It is possible to combine these gestures by stacking them together first Double Tap then immediately Hold the screen. This should toggle the lights and the audio.
Waking the Screen
If you want to do more than just toggle the lights, a touch will wake the screen. With the screen on, you are then free to navigate the screens as required.
The Scenes screen displays the scenes that you selected in the Screens > Scenes Screen menu. Just tap a scene to activate it.
The Audio screen allows you to control audio players on your network. Players from various integrations will will be displayed in the zone list accessible from the top left.
Grouped Zones & Volume
If there are grouped zones, they will be shown nested below the Master group. The volume controls within the Master group will control the group volume; the volume controls within the nested zones will control the individual Zones. It is recommended to control all aspects other than the individual Zone volume from the Master group.
Favourites & Presets
The button on the top right will show favourites or presets depending on the audio integration you are using. These can be saved from the Sonos or BluOS apps to give you quick access to your most frequent stations, playlists, albums, songs, podcasts etc.
The climate screen will be available via the Climate tab on the left of the scene screen if you have either configured Rithum Sat (gen3 switches only) or a compatible Climate plugin such as Tado or Fibaro Climate.
What is visible on this screen may vary depending on the third party systems you are using and their capabilities and configurations.
Select which zone to control using the Zone drop down. It is possible to switch between the zones of multiple integrations.
The power button turns the zone on or off.
When the zone is on, the set point can be set using the slider or the plus and minus buttons.
Note that any manual adjustment to the zone on/off state or the set point will override any schedule. In the case of Rithum Stat, this will be reset at the next scheduled event or the Resume button will resume the schedule immediately. For other integrations, the override is defined by the integration itself.
When heat is being generated/requested, the flame will be red, or greyed out when it is not.
Some integrations may provide a Boost button.
Air Conditioning (AC)
For AC integration (e.g. via Tado) other settings such as the Mode, Fan Speed and Vertical Swing can be set via the Ellipsis and a snowflake will be shown instead of a flame when cooling is required.
For Rithum Stat, the Scheduling tab will be visible on the left of the screen. From here, you can add up to 8 time slots per day to build a seven day schedule. It is possible to copy and paste between days. Ensure that the schedule is enabled with the toggle button in the top right corner.
